Voter
Registration

In 2005, as mandated by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), Lancaster County joined a centralized state voter registration database. This critical system connects all 93 counties in Nebraska, facilitating efficient list maintenance and compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Nebraska Election Act.

Driver’s License & Social
Security Verification:

Our database allows real-time checks using a voter’s driver’s license number and the last four digits of their Social Security Number through the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. This verification process is one way we ensure accuracy and prevent fraudulent registrations.

Ongoing Data Comparison

On a weekly basis, we cross-reference our voter data with Nebraska’s Office of Vital Records to identify any registered voters who have passed away. On a monthly basis, our system checks for felons within Nebraska’s criminal justice system, ensuring that ineligible individuals are not on the voter rolls.

Elimination of Duplicates

By identifying and eliminating duplicate registrations, we maintain a clean and reliable voter database. This streamlines the voting process and prevents confusion during elections. Moreover, when voters move within Nebraska, their voting history seamlessly follows them.

Our Elections Are
Bi-Partisan By Law

Nebraska’s elections are distinguished by their strong bipartisan framework, ensuring fair and balanced processes. State law mandates that the Commissioner and the Chief Deputy represent different political parties, fostering a diverse leadership.

This bipartisan approach extends to all critical election tasks, including teams at the polls, the operation of counting machines, the opening of early voting ballots, and the Canvassing Board’s oversight. Additionally, bipartisan teams are responsible for collecting ballots from drop boxes, further reinforcing the commitment to impartial and secure elections.
